For the rest of the blog, I'm writing the rest of the chapters as one whole summary.
So, continuing from chapter 7, in the rest of the book, Rob Haynes' plan gets further ahead in success. Simon is more approachable as the story goes ahead, and made to look more attractive and he becomes much more of a gentleman. Young and Simon then are back at Simon's house with Coop. Coop is in Simon's room, playing a game Simon made that would help Coop learn easier and more efficiently. He learns what words mean, like hydro means water. And after this, they get some pop, and some chips. Coop tells Simon not to eat them because he is on a diet, and Simon then asks if he can still have his pop. And of course, he can. The boys later on, go to the beach and play volleyball with our antagonist Lance Ansley. But before they play, Young goes and sees his crush Ronna. To him she is an angel. They talk for a while, and head back. Rob is there, and they are talking about team set ups. Rob and some girls are against Simon, Young, Coop, Bob and Lance. Making teams uneven. But they start the game and Lance steals the ball from Simon continuously, and makes himself look like an idiot. By the end of the game, Lance is out, and the boys are having a good time as well as the teams being evened out. The monday afterwards, the boys are back at school, and Simon is dressed more modernly. Jeans, striped rugby jersey, flat hair, and top-siders. Rob says he'll save Simon a seat at the table at lunch, and they part ways to class. But just before Rob and Young do, Rob tells Young that Simon believes he hates him. And Young basically says he does, but more subtle. After school, the boys meet in the weight room, and Simon is doing sit ups. They ask Simon if he knows how to drive yet, and Simon explains that he had no one to teach him, and no one to take him to Drivers Ed. classes. Rob tells Bob to teach Simon how to drive, and Simon asks bob if he has good enough car insurance, and explains that everything will be a disaster if he is driving. Afterwards, Young drives Bob and Simon home. When Simon is being dropped off he brings up how Young has to switch courses to make his father happy, and Simonexplains how he can hack into the school network to make the grades Young gets for creative writing to go under biology; just to make his father proud. Behind the whole thing about Young, Simon does this for him because Mr. Steward does not want Young to be in creative writing, and wants Young to be a doctor. The next day, Simon comes to school with a cheque for Bob to replace the mailbox he destroyed when Bob was teaching him how to drive. As the chapter goes on, the seasons change from summer to fall. And the football season begins. Scouts watch Coop, and Coop gives them a show. No offers had been made, but he is still waiting on them. Rob gives Simon an idea to become the school mascot, and keep the identity as a secret.
In the next few chapters the boys start on hacking the schools main system. They all meet at Simons home to watch how it's done. When the boys are done working on Young's schedule changes, they go through Lance's file and find out he is allergic to strawberries, and they use that a prank later on in the book. When the boys ask Simon to change some of Bob's absences, they ask him to fix up Rob's as well. But when Simon goes in he discovers that Rob isn't who he says he is. They discover that his real name is Robert Haynes Baddeck Junior. But in the file it also says that Haynes isn't his real name. So he is technically Robert Baddeck. And that he is really from Foley Texas. Rob had been lieing about who he really is. And the boys are upset and confused at this point.
When the boys are discussing Homecoming which in the book is listed as the first week of November, Coop is nervous due to the fact he has an ACT test that he has to get an 18 on to pass. As well as the fact that Rob wants Simon to expose who the mascot is at the homecoming dance. Later on Rob and Young are in the excercise room and are discussing who Young is taking to the dance. Young says he doesn't want to go.
At the dance, Young and Ronna are dancing and talking to eachother about how Ronna was waiting for Young to ask her to the dance. While they are dancing they are interrupted by Rob, asking if he could speak with "Steward" for a moment. They walk away and discuss how Rob wants Young to make sure he's getting good pictures of Simon for the newspaper. (Not sure if it's school newspaper, or town). And after the boys and cheerleaders are lined up on a white line going across the floor. "Deputy Dog" announces who the winners are for the sophomore class. Then, as he is getting ready to announce homecoming queen, Simon comes out with the uniform on and the tiara on his oversized mascot head. He goes through the girls jokingly putting the tiara within reach and snatching it away shaking his head. He then walks up to Blair Crews and put the tiara on her head. Rob kisses her, and Simon goes in between them, takes off the mascot head, and leans her back, and and kisses her.
After the dance, Young drives Ronna home, and kisses her goodnight, describing it as a memorable experience. Making him melt as I would describe it.
To make this shorter, I'm gonna zoom through the novel towards the end. Just so I don't spoil as much. I wrote about chapters 8-15, and now I'm gonna write about chapter 17, then skip a couple more.
So, in chapter 17, we find Lance in the cafeteria sitting alone, when a girl named Alice walks up to him and offers him cake and says that she thinks he's her secret admirer. Now, if you remember, I described about how in Lance's file he is allergic to strawberries, and the cake is made out of strawberries. Lance gets extremely agitated and tells Alice to leave and someone calls Lance an asshole as he is walking out of the cafeteria.
In chapter 19, the boys Simon and Young discover more about Rob. About how he comitted betrayals, and how his father was in jail, and his mother had left when he was younger. They had discovered this when they went to his old address and talked with the woman living there.
When Coop takes the ACT test, he fails it and Simon gets a fake ID and goes and takes the test again for Coop, and gets him a 21. They decide to have a party at Simons house trying to get him more attention and for him to win Class Favourite.
Towards the end of the book. In the final chapter, after the most athletic and most wittiest are announce the boys go to Rob's "office" and Rob gets angry at Simon for ruining his plan of Simon being class favourite. Rob starts getting furious and hitting Simon with the bat in the ankles, and knees. When Simon was turned towards Young, Rob hits Simon across the back of the head making him fall to the ground. Rob continuously pounds Simon with a bat making cry out, and the boys are all covered in blood. Bob and Coop join in while Young is standing off to the side in shock. By the end of the book the boys are now criminals. What happens next is your decision.
